Magical Designers Night
What happens when you bring together creatives and designers from the Mornington Peninsula for a sparkling evening of networking, champagne, and magic?
Let’s just say when designers let their hair down, they do it with taste and flair … and maybe a little (or a lot) Veuve Clicquot. We had to order more cases, ah hem! But who’s counting? Especially when it’s all in the name of a good design.
The idea behind our Magical Designers Night was to provide a space for designers and creatives based on the Peninsula to come and network, share ideas (and gossip!), and of course view our latest products and those of our guest supplier Elliot Clarke (textile creators extraordinaire) – all without having to travel into the city. With so many discerning and creative designers right here in beautiful Mornington, it just made sense to host such a soiree at our new Sorrento Furniture showroom (where there is also no shortage of comfy and stylish lounges for our guests to sit!). And in case that sounded too much like work and not enough fun, we thought why not make the evening a little bit magical and, most of all, entertaining?
Enter award-winning magician and mentalist Cath Jamison. Sassy and brilliant, Cath dazzled everyone with her interactive mix of magic tricks and mind reading, and a few cheeky asides about designers! It was easy to see why Cath is regarded as Australia’s best female magician. Her slight-of-hand game is truly amazing. We’re still debating how she managed to make an entire glass of champagne disappear!
As no party is complete without live music, we must give a big shout out the multi-talented Chris Mulhall. Chris, a Melbourne boy, has been travelling the world (at least until the pandemic put a stop to that) as a keyboardist and vocalist with Australian band Vance Joy. He’s also an accomplished solo artist with some magically sublime vocals, and it was a real treat to have Chris sing and play for us.
The night wasn’t all canapes and entertainment though. The other stars of the evening were our own all-weather outdoor furniture range Elements (brilliant name, right?!) and The Monaco – a simply stunning addition to our beautiful sofa family. Upholstered in none other than Elliot Clarke’s Alhambra Aspen washable linen, this beauty comes in a range of eye-popping colours. The only problem is choosing which one.
Speaking of Alhambra, our guest presenter, Jo from Elliot Clarke Textiles, wowed us with some textile sorcery of her own. After her presentation, we were all just a bit in love Elliot Clarke’s latest collection of Alhambra fabrics, including the sensational geometric and jazz-inspired Gatsby collection.
The night really belongs though to the all the wonderful and lovely Mornington Peninsula designers who came along and got right into the spirit of the evening, celebrating our new Sorrento Furniture showroom and product launch. The whole event was supposed to go for an hour and a half, and the last designer didn’t leave until after 10.30pm! Unsurprisingly, everyone was a little head sore the next day. Or what we call ‘a successful night before’.
It was a truly spectacular and magical evening and once lockdowns and COVID restrictions ease, we hope ‘Designers Night’ is something we can do a little more regularly. And, boy, what a night that first one is going to be!
